Analysis of Status Presens of Five Nursing Schools in Kwangju Area


Abstract
Present status of five nursing schools in Kwangju area was analyzed for two months¢¥ period from October to November of 1973, with the following results.
1) Personnels of five schools consisted of, 25.7% of legitimate staffs in the field of nursing education, 32.6% of medical doctors, and 41.7% of paramedical persons.
2) Nursing care education seemed to have most regular and adequate curriculum in SPEER nursing school, where the ratio of qualified teachers to the number of students was 1 : 26, while Chonnam University Nursing School could assign one teacher for each 30 students(or 60 students if the 1st-year class included).
3) Of the teaching staffs, 66.7% were college-graduate, 28.6% nursing school-graduate, and 4.8% nursing high school-graduate.
4) Clinical experience of the teaching staffs ranged, two to four years in 38%, and none over six years. Duration of teaching experience was under two years in 28.5%, and over ten years in 23.5%.
5) Teaching staffs of five schools could be divided into, three professors, three assistant professors, and nine assistants.
6) Weekly schedule of full-time staffs was three to five classes (hours) in 50%, and less than two and more than ten hours in 6% respectively.
7) Of specialty field, 44.4% of all teachers held a single subject, while one teacher (5.6%) covered four subjects.
8) The position of the deans of all five schools was held by persons other than nursing profession, four medical doctors and one paramedical. And legitimate nursing staffs occupied 60% of sections of both administration and student affairs.9) Questionnaire to students disclosed that 86% of them dissatisfied
